ROAR - Featuring Togare The Lion
Originally Anton LaVey's lion, Togare made his first screen appearance in the children's show "The Wonderful World of Brother Buzz" where he played himself in an episode centered around Anton, his family and their spooky home. There are lots of great scenes where Togare tears through packs of steak in the meat section of the grocery store and pulls Anton who trails behind him on a walk through Golden Gate Park. The episode was truly endearing and captured the hearts and minds of a generation of youngsters. A year after the show was filmed, and when Togare was fully grown he was forced out of the LaVey residence by neighbors who protested and petitioned to have the big cat removed and taken to the San Francisco Zoo. And although he sired a cub, named Trouble, at the SF Zoo, that wasn't his last stop, far from it! He was adopted by Tip Hedrin (star of "The Birds" and mother of actress Melanie Griffith) in 1971. Shortly thereafter Ms. Hedrin began production on the film ROAR which starred several lions, including Togare! There was even an original song made in his honor that played in the film. Togar is mentioned in the wikipedia page for ROAR as well as Anton LaVey.
